Lately, it appears as if the whole world is becoming dangerously polarized! For instance, the reaction to Dan Bongino’s YouTube ban. True, YouTube has the right to band Bongino. However, this is just proving the narrative “Conservatives are banned on social media more often than leftists are banned. Overall, we seem to be living in a time of serious echo chambers. That is in general. No matter, I think we are putting to much importance on the overall “Big Tech” phenomenon. Really, it is time to live and let live rather than label something “Seditious Echo Chambers”!
Echo Chambers tend to be one sided
After all, echo is in the name. So. basically it says just that. Everyone suck in one just keeps bantering on about the same view of some opinion. Where is the debate? Where is the challenge based on facts? If one side is not allowed to present where is the fairness. So, lefties just keep tweeting your own horn! That is the true misinformation as it does not allow for someone to offer a opposition to the contentious. That is, calling something a Seditious Echo Chambers is simply way of label it unacceptable. By who’s standards, truth happens not by standards; moreso, by accident. See this is why we use the term snowflake. Are your ideas so weak they may falter under question? Overall, anything that weak needs to be questioned!
Echo Chambers Exist Deal with It
For both, Left and Right have echo chambers. The biggest problem is not they exist; however, some cannot avoid them and get caught into “moth to the flame” paradigm. People that are politically weak get caught up into the fight and forget to look around and see how off track they really are from the collective truth. That is, if I just keep towing the line and not really introspect into what is being stated am I really seeking the truth? Or, am I just feeling good about where I am and fitting into the group I associate with better. Overall, am I missing the true truth for the chambers truths. The latter, is dangerous and isolates me from the real truth. However, it is hard to avoid and takes effort to avoid.
For reference, I was watching Bongino’s episode 1693 “Banned For Life! – The Dan Bongino Show”. Then, he covered the tweet of LogiCogs that I am going to post here:
Google is a private business. They’re free to choose how to run it as they please. Bongino is free to keep his speech going elsewhere, like in the companies he’s promoting. He’d love for you to follow him on those seditious echo chambers filled with misinformation.LogiCogs @logicogs – Replying to @DougHBoy1917A @mermat and @axios
Ok, let’s take that tweet apart a little bit. For example, “Google is a private business”. Yes, that is true but there is a problem with “Big Tech”. They appear to be more and more just “big” “Echo Chambers filled with misinformation”. For instance, there is a disparate amount of “conservatives” banned on these platforms. Ok. lets debat that! Show me the facts that prove me wrong! Also, who decides the “misinformation” as that is a very ambiguous and ever changing term. Especially, based on the fact that most who say it do not back it up with facts. They, tend to lead with feelings rather than facts.
Feelings rather than facts
Overall, I see the left using feeling and race as the basis for facts. Big problem, yes because they are not backing it up with facts only more feelings. Ok, so this leads me into a condition where I just stop listening to them. So, this is my attempt to explain feelings are great! Please, just show some fact that back up the feelings! Here are some of my facts:
“We live in a world where people tend to interact only with other people that share their beliefs,” Becker says. “One of the most consistent findings in social research is that networks are shaped by homophily — i.e. birds of a feather flock together. In other words, the world is filled with echo chambers.”Joshua Becker, Ph.D. – Inverse article posted above.
“Thought” Diversity Is The Key
Thinking is key, we have to protect the idea to think. I was very excited to hear what Lulu Cheng Meservey tweeted on Jan 26, 2022. I hope substack does live up to their claim not to fall victim to the mob. Here is the quote from her:
At Substack, we don’t make moderation decisions based on public pressure or PR considerations. An important principle for us is defending free expression, even for stuff we personally dislike or disagree with. We Understand principles come at a cost. I’m proud of our decision to defend free expression, even when it is hard, because: 1) We want a thriving ecosystem full of fresh and diverse ideas. That can’t happen without the freedom to experiment, or even be wrong.Lulu Cheng Meservey – Substack
See, that is what can be call a true ecosystem. The ability to say something even if it is wrong. Fundamentally, understanding comes by the way of exploring. That is science, the concept of theory works much the same way. Theories are to be proved or disproved and that is it. Consequently, if a theory is silenced then it will never be proved or disproved. Fundamentally, that is what big tech is doing by shutting down “misinformation” as they are really more just “theories” that are classified by the appointed to be misinformation. Finally, we have to get back to the basics of debate rather than just calming the opposition as “Seditious Echo Chambers”!
